They may be drawn to curry powder, herbs, flowers, essential oils and perfumes. They may even go out of their way to smell things or people, attempting to sniff another's hair or skin.

It’s been over a year since the establishment of this profound initiative, we have hosted a series of program here in Nigeria which include, an Autism awareness walk, an awareness program and interviews.

Our #lightitblue campaign as been on since August and we are really grateful to everyone who has participated so far. More still needs to be done and we are calling on everyone, let’s join hands in creating a world where people with autism can reach their full potential.

Blue is the color of the ocean and the sky; it often symbolizes hope, love, or health.

Blue is love;we are spreading love to every autistic person💙

Blue is health; we are raising awareness for a better health system that is well equipped to diagnose and manage autism in Nigeria 💙

With the change of every season
I notice that Maisons up and since it’s getting a little cooler I’m bracing myself for more late nights and early mornings.

Here are a few things that have helped us to stay sleep:

1 Sleep environment: the bedroom should be dark, quiet and cool. As children with ASD might be particularly sensitive to noises and for have sensory issues, the environment should be adapted to make sure your child is as comfortable as possible. We use a white noise machine daily.

2. Bedtime routine: the routine should be predictable, relatively short (20 - 30 minutes) and include relaxing activities such as reading or listening to quiet music.
Avoid the use of electronics close to bedtime.

3. Physical Activity: Daytime exercise can make it easier to fall asleep and children who exercise tend to have deeper sleep. Avoid allowing your child to exercise too close to bedtime as it can make it difficult for him to fall asleep.

4. No Naps! We are definitely team no nap and it’s a wrap for a good nights sleep if we do.

5. Medication: Speak to your doctor about medication that may be the best option for your child.

Children diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism, experience various types of challenges at school. This might be due to communication, and also relationships with other children.

Accumulating evidence indicates autistic children are more likely to be bullied.

The fact that ASC is a hidden disability is also most likely a contributory factor as it may mean that peers struggle to understand or empathise with behavioural differences

Children on the autism spectrum living in areas with low socioeconomic resources were also more likely to be bullied than other children on the autism spectrum. This highlights the importance of more mental health supports and attention to social care needs for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Bullying exposure can lead to not only longtime psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety, but also physiological symptoms.

Meet Ernest: "Hi, meet Ernest, he was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. What made me get him check, was when I noticed at the age of 3, he wasn't talking very well at that age. I went to our local school board, and they did tests on him, and that's how I found out he had autism. Throughout his early school year, he was giving sensory, occupational and speech therapy. He's a hard core gamer. He's a fan of Roblox and loves Hot Wheels cars. That's the only thing that keeps him at bay. But he's the sweetest boy, very smart and intelligent in school. He's now 10 and in the 5th grade. He doesn't like to keep the last word, which is funny because his every teacher he has, tells me that. But I'm so happy I'm not the only one going through this. It was hard and stressful at first, but it got easier as he got older. It definitely was easy. I love my son gratefully. He's my heart and soul."
